Frequently asked questions.

where are you located?

We are based out of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. We arrange to meet clients here and in several other cities in the region. We currently have a drop off location in Charleston MO - with more cities planned.

how much does it cost?

As soon as you provide us with details on the items you want digitized, we can provide a rough quote. Generally speaking, most video tapes (VHS, Video8, miniDV etc) are about $30 each. These are the most common types of home movie tapes, and can be 15minutes up to 4 hours (or more), so this pricing simplifies things. 8mm and Super8 film starts at around $0.80 per foot, Super8 and 16mm with sound is about 40% more. Our final videos are corrected for maximized sound, reframed and basic color correction. It’s more work intensive, but provides the best image - which is our goal.
We have volume discounts available if you have many things, which will be reflected on your quote.

Beware of the nationwide services that advertise “50% off” and similar rates - those are tied to quantity mandates, and with their high reject rates (they simply reject tapes that in many cases are just fine) and you are still charged for these. And seeing as how many of their orders are sent oversees for low cost non-specialized labor, they simply can not take the time to ensure that your memories are retrieved properly.

At Memories 2 Media, our PRIMARY objective is to get the best picture and sound from your tapes/films. We will do everything we can to accomplish this, including disassembling the tape to clean mold, splice tape breaks, etc. Most of those other services do not do this. It’s what we’ve done for years, and it’s what sets us apart.

can I ship my order in?

Absolutely. We have found that the barrier to many people to getting their memories digitized is the (understandable) fear of putting these irreplaceable items at the mercy of shipping services. In reality, we’ve never had an issue using the major carriers, although no one can guarantee delivery.

Let us know if you want to and we’ll send you the address and details on how to protect your shipment. (Hint: An Apple AirTag or TILE placed in the package will allow you to trace your package wherever it may go - and is highly recommended for the box you send)

what if i have an odd format not listed?

That’s one of the things we’ve been know for, being able to digitize just about any form of obsolete format of video/film/data. If you have anything odd, we’d love to help you with it. Watch the video banner below for a sample of the things we can and have done in the past. M2M - where obsolete formats are king!

what about very bad or damaged tapes/film?

In most cases, these can be repaired and the memories captured on them retrieved. There will be an additional charge based on the type of damage and repair required. Mold, broken tapes needing splicing - these can be addressed and the charge will normally not exceed the cost of an additional item. If it will be more extensive, we will contact you and get approval before moving forward with the repair.
